Japan is an island country by the east coast of Asia, which makes it an ideal destination for people seeking an oceanside photo-shoot opportunity. You can be sure to find a place to enjoy the beach in Japan all-year-round.

Okinawa
Without a doubt, the most popular oceanside photo destination in Japan is Okinawa. Okinawa is located in the subtropical climate zone, with a yearly average temperature over 20 degrees celsius (68°F). Except for the raining season in May and June, Okinawa can satisfy all your expectations for a pre-wedding photo shoot.
In Okinawa, the sea color gradually changes from crystal clear emerald to dark blue. The warm sunny weather, blue sky, and white sand make Okinawa’s beachside feel like paradise. Unlike being seen by crowds of people while taking photos in the city, Okinawa is less populated, allowing you to chill and relax. So feel free to step into the water or make a funny pose! A set of good pre-wedding photos needs nothing but smiles.

That’s not all. If you want a more challenging experience, why not try taking some underwater photos?

More Locations
You may ask, "Isn't Okinawa far away? What if I don't have the time or budget?". Don’t worry. There are plenty of destinations other than Okinawa. Thirty-nine of Japan's 47 prefectures are situated by the seaside, so it isn’t too hard to find a beach photo spot. For example, if you are looking for a beach near Tokyo you can choose from locations such as Odaiba, Shonan Beach, Izu, Kujukuri Beach, and more.

Meanwhile, there are also plenty of choices by the Sea of Japan such as Crystal Beach in Fukui, or the beaches of Wajima in Ishikawa.

Best Season and Time
Most areas in Japan have the rainy season (called "Tsuyu") in June and July so that avoiding these couple of months will make your pre-wedding shooting session easier.
The best time of day to take your beach photos is either from sunrise to 8 or 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. to sunset. This will allow you to capture the pure blue sea and sky without looking directly to the sun.
If you want to create the most vivid effects and play with light and shade, we recommend either getting up early for sunrise or waiting until sunset. The rich color of the sky strengthens the line of the horizon, and the warm glow of dusk sunlight provides the perfect lighting for silhouette portraits.
